The first tenant to join The Chris Dawson Centre, on April 27, 2009 was the Alzheimer Society. More than 500,000 Canadians are living with Alzheimer's disease or a related dementia. Of these, more than 71,000 are under the age of 60. At the present time, approximately 2,200 persons in Sarnia-Lambton have a diagnosis of dementia. The United Way of Sarnia-Lambton joined The Chris Dawson Centre August 1, 2009. The United Way of Sarnia-Lambton continues to invest in programs and services that have a direct impact on individuals served, as well as the community at large. currently, the United Way of Sarnia-Lambton supports 27 local agencies and 50 programs and services and they're gearing up to kick-off their Fall campaign. Since its inception in Sarnia in 1991, the Breast Cancer Society of Canada has been a major national organization funding Canadian breast cancer research. Their national fundraiser, Dress For The Cause, held in October has raised million of dollars for Canadian breast cancer research. The DSO provides information regarding developmental services and supports, confirms eligibility for service, and completes the application for services that will help adults with developmental disabilities meet their goals and address their needs.
